Articon was founded on January 1st 2001. Our objective was to grow to a size that would enable us to take on large-scale assignments and compete with other companies on the market.

In April 2001, Articon acquired the business and equipment of fa. Bjartur Skipanes, which had long-standing experience in earth and sewer work. At the time, Articon did not have the crew or equipment to take on such works, so the purchase considerably enhanced Articon’s competitiveness  as an all-round construction company.

In late 2001, Articon also purchased the company Byggi-Service, which had extensive market experience in carpentry and joinery. Initially, the  parent company and subsidiary operated as two companies under the same management, but at the start of 2007 they merged. With this, Articon was considerably better placed to offer clients comprehensive solutions for all common construction projects.

From the outset, Articon placed great emphasis on building a robust professional working environment, which would guarantee the highest standard of performance in all projects. In parallel, the objective from the beginning was to build an organisation capable of preparing and managing projects on time and on budget.

When the Krambatangi harbour facilities were put out to tender in 2003, Articon put a lot of work into securing the assignment. It was a challenging project demanding great precision at large scale. Articon tendered successfully, and the harbour contributed to growing Articon to the size required to establish robust project management capacity for large-scale projects.

In 2005 Articon won the contest to build the primary and secondary school við Løkin in Runavík. A partnership was established with Runavík Municipality, which wanted the school to become the pride of the town. Articon was awarded a total contract and became responsible for planning the project, as well as executing all elements of the construction. The school took Articon to a new level, giving the company the courage, size and opportunity to take leadership and innovate in construction.

Exciting projects, which became milestones in Faroese construction, have since been added to the list of achievements. We can mention large, striking buildings such as Argjahamar school and the care home, Boðanesheimið, a terminal and service buildings for Vagar Airport, a new head office for BankNordik, in addition to other projects of all sizes.

In recent years, Articon has taken on international assignments such as harbour works in the Shetland Islands and road construction in Norway. They were successfully completed and added to Articon’s experience and expertise.

Articon’s main focus will remain the Faroe Islands; the objective is to retain the position as a leading construction company, while at the same time maintaining and continuing to develop a professional and social company environment in which the right staff thrive.
