New smolt farm at inni á Dølum in Viðareiði.
In 2015 Bakkafrost considerably expanded its smolt production. In this context the company entered a contract with ArtiCon for the delivery of the required expansion. On January 29th 2015 the first building contract was signed between Bakkafrost and ArtiCon for the construction of a new smolt farm at inni í Dølum in Viðareiði.
Work commenced in June 2015 and in October 2016 the smolt farm was ready for a trial run followed by full production.
Bakkafrost’s new smolt farm includes two halls with eight fish tanks in each hall with the associate bio filtering halls. The administrative facilities are located between both halls. The total area of the building is approx. 5,700 m2.
In addition to the farming installations, ArtiCon also built the required water storage and purification facilities and a building to house generators.
ArtiCon was in charge of planning the building. Spenn was responsible for statics, and SMJ consultant architects designed the electrical installations and heating, ventilation and sanitary installations.
