SKÚLIN VIÐ LØKIN - PUBLIC SCHOOL IN RUNAVÍK

When Runavík Municipality in 2005 decided to build a new public school to replace the old one, the councillors agreed that it should be made of sustainable materials with low maintenance cost. They also stressed that the new school should be state-of-the-art, bring pride to Runavík and become a significant element in Runavík’s cultural scene.

ArtiCon tendered, in fierce competition with Phil and MT Højgaard, and won. The partnering agreement was signed on March 9th 2006 and the formal contract on August 30th the same year.

Work started on October 2nd 2006 and the school was formally handed to Runavík Municipality on December 13th 2008. ArtiCon was responsible for the entire project, including project planning.

The school has 18 regular classrooms and a total area of 5,000 m2. There are also a number of specialised classrooms for visual arts and crafts, chemistry, music etc. Great care has been taken to provide teachers with optimal working conditions, and the cafeteria and toilets are also of high standard. The school has a concert hall, which, coupled with the other school facilities, has made the school the cultural focal point of Runavík as intended.

The Mayor of Runavík Magnus Rasmussen states:

“The building price and building time stipulated in the contract were fully honoured by ArtiCon. Our co-operation with ArtiCon went very smoothly and ArtiCon demonstrated great care and consideration during the process. The work has been executed to the highest level and to our full satisfaction. We can highly recommend ArtiCon as a contractor”.
